Dear Sirs,
I work for Britain’s leading cultural tour operator, Martin Randall Travel, based in London. We are looking to include a new tour in our programme for 2012 that includes ‘Walking and Gastronomy in Lebanon’. We are planning an 8-day tour that includes walks on the LMT around Ain-Zhalta, Maasser el Chouf and Jezzine to Niha, with some visits to local producers of honey, cheese, etc, as well as some wine tasting at some of Lebanon’s excellent wineries.
Would you be able to suggest hotels and guesthouses that would be suitable for a group of up to 18 people which have character and charm that are based in or near these areas?
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
With best wishes,
Liz Brown
Below are some suggestions for lodgings in Lebanon recommended by one of our partner projects the DHIAFEE Program who are also ready to direct you to local guides (country code for all numbers mentioned below is 961):
Ain Zhalta-
AFDC in Ramlieh- Can host 18 people easily. Double rooms with private bathrooms. Nice location, clean and quiet. Common kitchen and sitting room and a reading room. The rooms are a little bit small. I can’t see any other place around this area though.
Contact Information: 05- 280 430. Hisham: 03- 493281.
Maasser El Chouf-
Beit El Hana: It’s an old house that has been nicely renovated
It is $25- $30/ pers B&B. I think they can host up to 16 people. They might be able to add mattresses. Total of 6 rooms x 2 beds each and a sofa bed in 3 or 4 of them + private bathroom. Common kitchen.
Contact Information : Raed 05- 350 451 or 70- 314 602.
Another alternative for a large group is the St Michel Auberge. It is more of a youth hostel. Common bathrooms and common kitchen and sitting room.
Contact Information: 05-350 452
Niha-
The DHIAFEE-LMT B&B in Niha does not have the capacity to host this number of people.
I would suggest El Ashkar guesthouse in the nearby Khreibeh village. Nice old house renovated with a nice outdoor space. 4 rooms (total of 15 beds) with possibility of adding matresses. 2 common bathrooms, 1 kitchen and 1 sitting room. Price within the same range as above.
Contact information: Salim El Ashkar on 03- 354 558.
Jezzine-
Auberge Wehbe is a nice place and can host 18 people easily. Very clean, spacious and nice.
Contact Information: 07 – 780 317 or 07 – 781 009.
Shouf Reserve is a must. You can meet meet local producres including organic farmers through the Biosphere Reserve. A suggested contact is Nizar Hani once there. He can organize for you to meet local producers of honey and other produces. 03- 513 845.
Nazih Baz in Baadarane (very close to Niha- Maasser El Shouf) is someone to meet. He is the only one that still has the old weaving loom and sells products made from the loom. He is an excellent guide around all this area too. He has a guesthouse but does not have the capacity for 18 people. 03- 702944.
